Reasons I Shouldn’t Be Allowed to Shop

Yesterday I went walking through Princeton, enjoying the sights and smells as I wandered to my favorite Indian restaurant on the far side of town.
On the main drag there are rows and rows of little shops – cute little boutiques, mod furniture designers, stores whose products seem almost pointless (A whole store that just sells envelopes? Really?), upscale clothing chains. I can’t afford to spend much money, but I like to window browse. There are places to buy yogurt, places to buy cupcakes, places to buy $100 pillows. There is also a place that sells all of these weird, cheap Japanese toys. Like $3 cheap.
So I bought…these.
Again, this post is aptly titled. Alternative titles include “Why I Should Not Be Allowed In The Company of Candy Without Adult Supervision” or “Oh Jeez, She’s Seriously Lost It Now, Hasn’t She?”
The Pocky is for Brandon, because it was a dollar and he’s never had it before. Best place to get it is at an Asian market or store, which is where I did. B and I had a conversation in the grocery store about this last weekend – I advised never to buy a box of these trendy chocolate covered biscuits for more than $2. Anything more than that is just someone banking on the naive or Japanese-obsessed (or both).
The gummy bacon, well, your guess is as good as mine.
These cocktail infusions by Tea Forte seem interesting enough, though they were purchased at Kitchen Kapers. From the makers of those overpriced but nifty pyramid-shaped teabags comes a pretty novel product; it’s a teabag for your booze. Stick one of the flavored sachets into your chosen alcohol, steep, then mix up your favorite cocktail with an added twist.
I made a lemongrass mint martini tonight but thought it was far too strong for me. Could be that I’m just not a fan of gin. Has anyone tried these? The lavender looks yummy. This product could easily be replicated with good fresh or dried herbs and reusable tea sachets – for much cheaper too!

the pocky is pretty good. Would go well with tea. I agree with you that it is worth about a dollar. I can’t believe the little mall kids I saw today at the coffee place were paying like 3 bucks for a box of it.
