Ecofriendly Weekend
Posted in Culture Bites, News on 12. Oct, 2008
Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale.
The weekends have become my time to just relax and catch up on sleep and my life and homework and…well, breathing. It may sound dramatic to those not quite in the know, but let me illuminate the situation for you.
I am currently a junior at Rowan University, studying journalism and creative writing. I’m taking seven classes and work as a Resident Assistant and the photo editor at my university’s newspaper. Every week I have at least three essays to write and piles of paperwork to attend to. On top of that, my friends and I just started this blog, which means podcast filming and family dinner nights a couple times a week.
Crazy? Yes. But I love my job – er, jobs – more than anything in the world.
This weekend, however, was me time. Sleep late and browse the internet in your jammies time. Drink tea and read the new issue of Bon Appetit time. Be a lazy bum and blow off your homework time.
Last night I went midnight grocery shopping (ahh college life) and had a quiet Sunday brunch morning, which began by making Foodista’s cheddar dill scones. And the rest of the day will probably have some combination of bad television, Harry Potter, and chamomile tea.
While I take my mental health break, the rest of the world keeps on plugging. I’ve gather up a few good stories for your viewing pleasure:
Inquirer food columist Rick Nichols explored rare varieties of apples at a New Hope orchard.
International Olive Oil Council shared this amazing recipe for a Vegetarian Florentine with leeks and lentils.
Mi Lah Vegetarian had their grand opening in Philly this weekend, to very positive reviews.
Straight from the Farm, which always has such beautiful photography, posted their recipe for Sweet Gorgonzola and Pear Bruschetta. *Drool*
Okay, now everyone channel your inner playground bully and say this with me: EWWWWW STARBUCKS. EW. Why are you such a big loser? A Seattle paper recently exposed that the coffee giant is wasting 6.2 million gallons of water per day! Just when I was starting to give them a second chance…hmph.
TasteSpotting is a website designed specifically for weirdos like me who like to drool over gorgeous photos of sexy food – food porn, if you will. I may never do work again.
Mwah xoxo,
Alexandra
